DARKHORSE co-founder to hop across the sea for new CEO position

The co-founder of New Zealand’s social, brand experience and PR agency, DARKHORSE, is moving to Australia to become the agency’s Sydney-based CEO.

The announcement:

Fuelled by substantial growth in its offices across Auckland, Sydney and Singapore, New Zealand-born brand experience, PR and social agency DARKHORSE has announced the next phase of its APAC expansion: co-founder Mike Hewitt will take on the Sydney-based role of DARKHORSE CEO.

Supporting Mike is co-founder and executive creative director Liam Taylor, who continues to play a key role in the agency’s executive management and global expansion, and business partner Francesca Kelly, who steps into the position vacated by Mike, managing director NZ.

The announcement comes off the back of the DARKHORSE AU office winning several high-profile accounts including Sephora, and the extension of work with existing AU clients including Jaguar Land Rover and Pernod Ricard.

“My family and I are pumped to move to beautiful Sydney and I’m excited for this next step in our agency’s ambitious plan to harness and export the magic of DARKHORSE around the world,” says Mike Hewitt. “Project Worldwide acquired DARKHORSE in 2018 with the aligned aspiration for it to be a true global agency. Supercharged by Project’s alliance of 15 agencies, 42 markets and 2000+ teammates, we have big plans in store for both our growth and our client proposition.”

Liam Taylor expands, “doubling down on our regional offering is not only exciting for DARKHORSE’s trajectory but it strengthens our proposition to existing clients such as BP, Pernod Ricard and L’Oreal, who are looking to leverage our ANZ footprint.”

“Our expansion also gives our team more epic opportunities to work and travel across different markets,” Francesca Kelly adds. “Yet another reason for the industry’s best to join the darkside!”

Since its inception 12 years ago, DARKHORSE has proudly challenged the status quo with a disruptive spirit, integrated approach, and needle-moving work that marries relentless creativity with results-driven strategy. The agency’s diverse and talented stable includes specialists across strategy, creative, PR, influence, content, digital, social and events; a unique, multi-disciplinary offering that delivers clients the services of four agencies with one team.
