Dave Thornton joins Ten’s Melbourne Cup line-up

Comedian and The Project regular Dave Thornton will be going behind-the-scenes at the 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival “to bring viewers all the intel from the men and women of the moment”.

The announcement:

Jockeys beware! Network 10 is about to flip the lid on all the shenanigans going on behind the mounting yard when we gain exclusive access to the purpose-built Jockey’s Lounge.

That’s right, we’re giving resident funnyman Dave Thornton the keys to the house and have set him the all-important task to bring viewers all the intel from the men and women of the moment. Armed with his wit and sidesplittingly humour, Dave will have unprecedented access to the jockeys across all four days of the 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Dave Thornton said: “To have this kind of access to the jockeys is pretty unreal, not just for me but also for the viewers at home. Having two young kids at home I’ll take any advice on how to get a three-year-old to do what it’s told.”

Network 10 Head of Sport, Matt White, said: “We promised access like never before, and we have delivered on that promise by letting Dave Thornton loose in the exclusive Jockey’s Lounge. With him behind the mic, I can almost guarantee that viewers will get to know the jockeys better than we ever have before. Who knows what he’ll get up to back there!”

Dave joins 10’s star studded line up of commentators, reporters and hosts including Francesca Cumani who will spearhead the racing team, anchored by coverage hosts Matt White and Roz Kelly.

Rounding out the experts are Peter Moody (Expert Commentator), David Gately (Form Expert), Michael Felgate (Racing Reporter), Caty Price (Racing Reporter) and Brittany Taylor (Horseback Interviewer).

Covering all things fashion, celebrity and entertainment are reporters Anna Heinrich, Kate Peck, Beau Ryan and Scott Tweedie.

It’s the race that stops the nation, and 10 has the best team to keep you across every single detail of the 2019 Melbourne Cup Carnival. It all begins with AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday, 2 November, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday, 5 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday, 7 November and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day on Saturday, 9 November.

Giddy up Dave.
