Management reshuffle at DDB Melbourne as boss Nick Condon steps down

Nick Condon: a decade with DDB

Nick Condon, the managing director of DDB Melbourne, has resigned and is leaving the industry.

His departure brings to an end a decade with DDB, having joined from what was formerly known as Y&R Mattingly in 2003.

Condon took on the role of MD of DDB Melbourne a few months ago following a restructure that saw group MD Andrew Little move to Sydney to take on a national position.

He is now planning to pursue a career in the property business.

Little told Mumbrella: “When I moved to Sydney in January, Nick was put into the MD role of DDB Melbourne. He’s decided that it’s not for him, and he can now focus solely on property development, one of his passions.”

“We’ve had a very stable stable management team at DDB Melbourne for a long time. I was in charge for 13 years, and Nick helped me run the agency for ten. We’re great mates – Nick was the MC at my wedding. We will all miss him, and wish him well.”

Condon commented: “I started my career at DDB Melbourne. It’s been wonderful to be part this brilliant company and I’m grateful for all the opportunities that have been afforded to me during my time with the business. I’m going to miss being part of the DDB family immensely, but I’ve decided it’s now time to focus on my business interests outside of advertising and spend more time with my family.”

Lorenzo Bresciani, the head of planning who joined the DDB eight months ago from rival Whybin\TBWA\Melbourne, is taking Condon’s place to lead the agency.

Little said: “Making the choice to appoint Lorenzo was an easy one. We’re delighted to have promoted someone of his calibre into the role. He’s an exceptional operator and has a great balance between strategy and creative. He already has a strong vision for the agency – based on his extensive international experience. ”

Bresciani began his career in strategic consulting with Accenture, before moving into advertising with GPY&R. He has also worked at BMP DDB in London, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in the US and Lowe in London.

In another move, the managing partner of DDB Melbourne Oliver Lynch is shifting to the New Zealand office where he will take on the more senior role of general manager.

Lynch is being replaced by group business director Lisa D’Amico, who has been running Telstra, DDB Melbourne’s largest account.

The management reshuffle comes in the same week that DDB Melbourne – for some time seen as a weaker office than Sydney – produced some of its best work for some time, a series of ads for Devondale that humorously portrayed a man’s reaction to drinking soy milk by mistake.

Little told Mumbrella: “It’s true that the Sydney office has hogged the limelight for some time. But Darren [Spiller, DDB Melbourne’s ECD, who joined in July 2012] is really starting to have an impact. He was instrumental in the Westpac win, and it’s great to see the work starting to come through.”
