Debra Oswald wins at Premier's Literary Awards
Debra Oswald won the Script Writing Award for her work on Channel Ten’s Offspring at last night’s 2011 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, held at the Sydney Opera House.
Oswald, a writer of film, television, stage radio and children’s fiction, was awarded a cash prize of $30,000.
The judges said, “The writer immediately grabs us by the lapels and drags us into the world of Nina our obstetrician heroine, a world which is by turns confused, quirky, funny and sad. The characters are three dimensional, the dialogue brisk, and the story takes us with it as it drives forward.”
It is the second time Oswald has won a Premier’s Literary Award. In 2008 she won Best Play for Stories in the Dark.
Asher Keddie received a Silver Logie for Most Popular Actress earlier this month for her lead role as Nina Proudman.
Offspring’s second season kicked off last night with a two-hour special receiving an audience of 927,000.
Congratulations Debra, the award and recognition is so well deserved!
Fabulous writing of a fantastic show which is executed perfectly. ‘Offspring’ should be held up as an example of fine writing to all!
I loved the first series and couldn’t wait for the second, and the third, and the fourth! I don’t ever want to let these characters go, especially Nina :o))
You inspire my writing dreams!
