Debut issue of ACM travel publication Explore launches

Australian Community Media (ACM) has launched the debut issue of its travel weekly Explore.

The announcement:

EXPLORE your new favourite travel destination with ACM

Australian Community Media has launched a sophisticated new weekly travel publication across its 14 daily newspapers, unlocking an audience of 4.6 million people every month for travel providers.

Called Explore, the stylishly designed liftout is produced for ACM by Big Splash Media led by publisher and editor-in-chief Peter Lynch.

Promising exciting travel adventures and inspiring holiday ideas, Explore debuts in print on November 23 in the key Saturday editions of ACM’s stable of 14 daily papers, including The Canberra Times, Newcastle Herald, The Border Mail, The Examiner in Launceston and The Courier in Ballarat.

To celebrate the launch of Explore, ACM has partnered with Evergreen Cruises & Tours to offer readers the chance to win a European river cruise package worth $27,000.

The 15-day Splendours of Europe cruise, from Amsterdam to Budapest, for two people aboard an Emerald Waterways Star-Ship includes return economy-class airfares from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane or Hobart.

Explore’s other launch partners include Viking Cruises, Insight Vacations and View Hotels. Australian Community Media CEO Allen Williams said Explore would deliver dedicated travel content to an untapped audience of 4.6 million people every month.

“This is an exciting initiative for ACM as Australia’s leading independent regional publisher and an unrivalled opportunity for our advertising partners to reach our highly engaged audiences in some of Australia’s most important population centres,” Mr Williams said.

“Our readers in these markets across NSW, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania are incredibly loyal to the local paper they know and trust and Explore will entertain, inspire and connect them with the best travel advice and deals available.”

Mr Williams said working with Big Splash Media ensured a high-quality result.

Explore editor Peter Lynch is well known in travel media circles, having helped establish the Traveller brand for the former Fairfax Media.

“Peter and his highly experienced team produce the best content in the travel business, which means Explore readers are guaranteed great travel reading and travel providers are guaranteed a highly engaged audience.”

With destinations, deals and advice, plus travel writing to transport you around Australia and the globe, Explore has places to stay and the things to see and do.

In the 16-page launch edition, actor Chris Hemsworth, star of the Thor superhero movies and Tourism Australia’s latest marketing campaign, reveals his favourite Australian holiday destinations.

Other features include a guide to Alaskan holiday adventures, an Asian cruise of coastal resorts from Thailand to Hong Kong and tips for making the most of 24 hours in one of Australia’s most popular overseas holiday destinations, Singapore.

Explore is published every Saturday in The Canberra Times, Newcastle Herald, The Border Mail, The Courier, Bendigo Advertiser, The Standard, The Examiner, The Advocate, Illawarra Mercury, The Daily Advertiser, The Northern Daily Leader, Central Western Daily, Western Advocate and the Daily Liberal.

Australian Community Media is Australia’s leading regional and rural publishing and printing business, with more than 160 publications and a network of news websites stretching into every state and territory.

Formerly part of Fairfax Media, ACM is owned by Antony Catalano and business partner Alex Waislitz’s Thorney Investment Group, who took control of the business from Nine Entertainment on July 1.

The debut of Explore follows ACM’s September launch of Future Focus, a dedicated website and magazine series exploring the growth potential in regional Australia, and the October merger of ACM’s Bendigo Advertiser with Bendigo Weekly.
