Deloitte hires former Telstra and Leading Edge executive Andy Bateman to head innovation

Andy Bateman, the former Telstra marketing director who has spent the past year running growth strategy business Everyone, has been named as the new leader of Deloitte’s innovation strategy practice.

Former Telstra marketer Andy Bateman is joining Deloitte.

The announcement the former telco executive is joining the global consultancy comes just a week after former Channel Ten head of brand, Matt McGrath joined the company as its new CMO.

Prior to joining Telstra in the marketing role, Bateman was global CEO of innovation and strategy firm The Leading Edge.

Deloitte has effectively bought Bateman’s consultancy and Everyone will continue to work with its own associates on Deloitte projects.

Deloitte managing partner, Consulting, Rob Hillard, said Bateman would be charged with helping companies understand the challenges of innovation.

“At Deloitte Consulting we are in the business of business transformation, helping our clients create radical change in their organisations in order to create and sustain competitive advantage in the face of continuous uncertainty and disruption,” Hillard said.

“Innovation is a key issue that many executives and boards are grappling with, and we believe is critical to achieving true transformation. We are seeing increasing demand from our clients to help them connect innovation initiatives to their business strategy.”

Bateman said joining Deloitte would allow him to realise the vision he had for the business when he launched it in April last year.

“Joining Deloitte enables me to supercharge the vision I had for Everyone, to be a progressive innovation strategy and execution business,” Bateman said.

“Scope, scale and culture really matter in this business and I see huge potential to build something really meaningful with Deloitte, with people I respect and feel a sense of shared values with.”

He said Australian businesses were moving to the “second act of innovation”.

“(It’s moving) from businesses experimenting with labs, funding start-ups and continuous product and service improvements, to recognising innovation as a core strategic capability that must be embedded in the organisation,” he said.

Monitor Deloitte lead partner Jeremy Drumm said Bateman’s experience was a good fit for the consultancy as it continued to offer support for business innovation.

“Over the past 25 years he has helped brands, businesses and teams around the world create the change that drives dramatic growth. We are thrilled to have him join Deloitte,” Drumm said.
