Dentsu local CEO Angela Tangas moving to UK&I role amidst local transformation

Global Dentsu International CEO Wendy Clark has appointed ANZ CEO, Angela Tangas to the UK and Ireland top job within the Japanese holding group. She will depart in September, with a local replacement yet to be announced.

Tangas was appointed into her current role in November 2019, succeeding Henry Tajer in his short-lived stint, during a turbulent time for the group. Tangas will leave after making a string of senior appointments in recent months, restructuring the leadership team locally in the ANZ market.

Tangas replaced Tajer as CEO

This includes appointing Kirsty Muddle as group creative CEO, David Halter as chief strategy officer, and John Riccio joining CXM business Merkle as its new CEO. Riccio’s role was expanded to be president of Merkle APAC just under three months into the role. Chris Bower was also appointed Dentsu Solutions CEO in February.

Tangas will report into EMEA CEO, Giulio Malegori, taking up a spot in the EMEA executive team. This week, Dentsu reported 12% organic growth in the Australian market across Q1.

Malegori said: “The UK&I is one of the largest and most significant advertising markets in the world and, following a period of intense simplification, the business is accelerating its growth potential. In her time at Dentsu ANZ, Angela has proven herself to be a transformational leader with a track record of delivering sustainable business growth for dentsu and supporting positive business outcomes for clients”

Tangas said: “I strongly believe in the power of teaming– bringing brilliant, diverse minds together to solve the problems of today and pre-empt the opportunities of tomorrow for our people, clients, partners and society. The UK market is one of the most innovative in the world with some of the most progressive consumer expectations of brands. The opportunity to lead this team of talented humans partnering with some of the most exciting organisations to unlock a new set of value dynamics, is a very compelling opportunity”

Tangas joined Dentsu in 2018, appointed by former CEO Simon Ryan as national MD of DentsuX.
