Derryn Hinch is ‘coming home’ with a new show on Sky News

Broadcaster and commentator Derryn Hinch will return to TV screens as the host of a new show on Sky News after losing his senate seat in the 2019 election.

Hinch will air on Thursdays at 8pm on Sky News Live and Sky News on WIN and will mark a return to TV for Hinch, ‘the Human Headline’, after he left the world of media to become a senator three years ago.

The one-hour program will broadcast live from Sky News Melbourne each week. Hinch said returning to the channel feels like he’s ‘coming home’ after hosting Hinch Live for two seasons in 2015.

“Hosting Hinch on Sky News, I feel like I am coming home. I loved my time at Sky before I ‘jumped the shark’ and became a senator. Now, I can bring you info from both outside and inside. Not just politics but the issues of the day. I can’t wait,” said Hinch.

Hinch’s history in the media involves several years as a broadcaster with 3AW, hosting roles at Seven, Ten and Nine, a run on Dancing with the Stars in 2005 and a column he wrote for Crikey from 2016 to 2018, which promised to ‘expose the inner-workings of Parliament House’.

His career has also been marred with controversy. In 1987 he served 12 days in prison and was fined $15,000 for contempt of court regarding the case of Roman Catholic priest Michael Charles Glennon and 2011 he was held on home detention for breaching suppression orders.

In 2014, Hinch was jailed again, this time for contempt of court regarding the death of Jill Meagher.

Paul Whittaker, Sky News chief executive said: “As we continue to expand our programming offering, Hinch will be compelling viewing as he provides his unique take on events.”

Hinch was elected to the senate with Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party in the 2016 federal election before losing his seat in 2019. He is also currently working on his sixteenth book.
