DigiSPAA adds trip to American Film Market to prize

Digital film-making competition DigiSPAA has partnered with the American Film Market by offering the winner a trip to the 2013 market in Santa Monica, California, to network with more than 1000 production companies and 400 distributors over the five day conference.

The announcement:

DigiSPAA, Australia and New Zealand’s premier independent digital filmmaking competition has partnered with the American Film Market® (AFM), one of the biggest global gatherings of industry leaders from over 70 countries, to strengthen the prize pool for the winner of this year’s ‘SPAArtan Award’.

This partnership will see DigiSPAA offer this year’s winner return flights to the 2013 market  in Santa Monica, California and all access passes for the entire eight-day event taking place Nov. 6-13, 2013. This is in addition to the prize pool of $15,000 cash, $20,000 worth of post-production and a guaranteed screening of the winning film on the Movie Extra channel.

AFM is a pivotal destination for independent filmmakers and the place where $800 million in deals are sealed annually on both completed films and those in every stage of development and production. With more than 1,000 production companies and 400 distributors under one roof, coupled with AFM’s five-day Conference Series, filmmakers gain tremendous knowledge, access and a rare opportunity to hear from the industry’s thought leaders which will greatly aid them in  developing their projects for the international marketplace.

Applications for 2012 DigiSPAA close at 5pm on Friday 14th September 2012. Eligible films are feature length, with a running time of at least 61mins, digitally produced and completed to advanced post-production stage no earlier than 30 August 2011, and independently funded.

DigiSPAA embraces the importance and growing prevalence of digital filmmaking in the industry and aims to support filmmaking that is affordable, creative and appealing to audiences. Epitomizing this philosophy, this year’s competition is themed ‘Uncovering new storytellers, telling new stories’. Last year, a total of 25 independently-funded digital feature films were entered into the competition.

DigiSPAA is a creative project of the Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA), an industry body that represents Australian independent film and television producers on all issues affecting the business and creative aspects of screen production.
