Digital innovation boss Steve Brown exits SCA following sales restructure

Southern Cross Austereo’s head of digital innovation and operations, Steve Brown, has left the business after almost three years.

Brown first joined the company in 2015 from News Corp Australia, where he was group sales director.

Upon joining SCA, Brown was head of digital sales and operations before moving to his new role in January. However, a merging of the digital and metro radio sales teams left his position redundant.

The consolidation of teams was flagged two months ago by SCA’s chief sales officer, Brian Gallagher, who announced an alignment of DAB+ and metro radio stations.

As a result, all digital inventory is now sold as a package within radio products. No redundancies were flagged upon the first announcement of the sales alignment, but some were announced following a split between US content platform Vevo and SCA in February. Brown was responsible for operating the Vevo partnership.

Gallagher confirmed today SCA was transitioning the digital and metro radio sales teams.

“Effectively all direct sold digital inventory is now packaged and sold within radio products by radio teams. Unfortunately, this has impacted on Steve Brown who has now left the company on completion of this transition,” Gallagher said.

“Steve has been with us since 2015 as the Head of Digital Sales and has made a significant contribution to our digital sales efforts and to the Vevo partnership.  I wish him all the best for the future.”
