Isobar and SMG launch ‘D:WTF’ event to help marketers navigate the murky world of influencers

Isobar and SMG are hosting an event which aims to assist marketers who are confused by the world of influencers.

The event will be hosted in Sydney, costing attendees $5, with all proceeds going to charity.

D:WTF: Will explore how influencers should actually be used

D:WTF will be a regular event which “focuses on one relevant topic within the digital marketing industry”, with this Thursday’s session discussing influencers.

The panel will be moderated by Isobar Sydney’s head of social Mike Watkins, and feature insights from Ash Ringrose (founder of Soap Creative and SMG), Sammy Lewis (national sales director at Tribe), Detch Singh (founder at Hypetap) and Alen Catak, AKA ChampChing (YouTube influencer).

The event description says: “In a world of fake followers and bought influence, we discuss what influence actually is and how it should be used by brands and marketers”.

Watkins said of the event: “Over the last two years, I have seen a large increase in the amount of questions related to digital and social media, with very few answers. Digital WTF aims to become a regular forum aimed at answering those questions in a casual, fun and conversational way.

“Every eight weeks, we choose a topical subject, then select four industry experts to be on the panel. We ask them not to prep with talking points, agendas, or Powerpoint slides – just to be ready for a discussion.

“In the coming six to 12 months, we hope to have built an event series that digital marketers look forward to, as they know they will be educated and entertained on topics that are relevant to them and their work.”

The event will fun for two hours on Thursday evening in Walsh Bay. More information can be found here.
