Discovery Networks appoints Thierry Bled as executive producer, ANZ

Discovery Networks has appointed former WTFN producer Thierry Bled as executive producer, Australia and New Zealand, effective today.

DISCOVERY NETWORKS APPOINTS THIERRY BLED AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

In line with its strategy to invest in more local productions than ever before, Discovery Networks has appointed Thierry Bled as Executive Producer, Australia and New Zealand effective today.

In this newly created role, Bled is tasked with overseeing the development of productions across a portfolio of 12 channel brands in Australia and New Zealand. Spanning factual, lifestyle and kids genres, this role will drive local content for Discovery Channel (ANZ), Animal Planet (ANZ) TLC (ANZ), Discovery Kids (AU), Discovery Turbo (ANZ), Discovery Science (AU), Living Channel (NZ) and Food TV (NZ).

Reporting to Jonathan Rudd, Vice President, Programming & Production, Bled will also manage Discovery Ignite – Discovery Networks’ annual local production initiative which gives independent filmmakers the opportunity to pitch ideas for local commission. Some of the Network’s most successful local productions are a result of this program including Abalone Wars, Saltwater Heroes, John Eales Reveals: Life After Sport and more.

2016 has been Discovery Network’s biggest year of local productions, with huge titles still set to premiere before the end of the year including Aussie Gold Hunters, Abalone Wars Season S5, Say Yes To The Dress: Australia, Shark Week, Snake Boss Season S2 and more.

Originally from the United States, Bled has served as a director and producer on a number of high profile series including the Emmy® Award-winning Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Top Chef and Project Runway. In Australia, he has worked as a Commissioning Editor for ABC Children’s Television, commissioning over 200 hours of content, and was Head of Development at Joined Up Films. He has vast experience with developing, directing and producing for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Viacom and NBC Universal and worked on a number of local formats including Project Runway and The Biggest Loser.
