‘Ditch the pitch’ debate and crisis comms trivia join completed Mumbrella CommsCon program

The line-up for Mumbrella CommsCon has been completed, adding a live Head to Head debate on whether the industry should ditch the pitch, an interactive crisis comms trivia game and a session on a data-led approach to wellbeing and mental health.

Head to Head returns for its second year, with this year’s topic asking whether the industry should ditch the pitch. It will feature a ‘yes’ team made up of Optus’ Melissa Hopkins, Edelman’s Susan Makatoa, Herd MSL’s Stuart Wragg and SI Partners’s Julia Vargiu.

Meanwhile, the ‘no’ team currently consists of Attention + Influence’s Georgia Wright and Bashful’s Guy Marshall with another speaker soon be confirmed.

Both teams of communications experts will tackle the topic in a live debate, with the audience deciding on the winner.

Mumbrella CommsCon is being held at the Fullerton Hotel in Sydney on April 2.

Adding to the interactive stream at Mumbrella CommsCon is The Drill’s Gerry McCusker, who will be running a team crisis comms trivia in a first for the conference.

Mixing theory and case studies, delegates will be divided into teams where they will be asked to recite best practices for handling a crisis at all stages of the process while being tested on their knowledge of crisis communications.

Rounding out the program at Mumbrella CommsCon is EnergX’s Sean Hall, who will take a data-led approach to wellbeing and mental health.

The session will be based on data collected from over 1,000 marketing, media, advertising and PR professionals on their mental wellbeing and productivity at work.

Hall will lead the session ‘A Data-Driven Approach To Building Your Wellbeing Strategy’

Throughout the session, Hall will take the audience through the steps needed to create a culture where creativity can thrive, while revealing practical steps to create better practices in the workplace and at home, which will result in increased productivity.

This year three international speakers will take to the stage at Mumbrella CommsCon including the former deputy press secretary and special assistant to President Trump, Lindsay Walters; Guardian UK’s director of communications, Brendan O’Grady; and Golin Singapore’s ECD, Shouvik Prasanna Mukherjee.

Other speakers on the lineup include the United Nations Association of Australia, Poem, Koala, Opr, PwC, Eleven, Red Havas and more.

Mumbrella CommsCon is set to take place on April 2, 2020 at The Fullerton Hotel in Sydney with the CommsCon Awards to take place at the conclusion of the conference. Tickets can be purchased here.
