Djokovic still the joker as he gets into the spirit for Novak 919
The world’s #1 ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic, has been hounded by the media this week after voicing his displeasure at his quarantine situation before the Australian Open.
The ‘Djoker’, like many other international players, is spending 14 days lockdown down in Adelaide – so local Nova breakfast duo Ben and Liam decided they’d try to lift his spirits.
Rocking up to his apartment in full old school tennis kits, Ben and Liam from Nova spent quite some time trying to get the world #1’s attention. It began with totem tennis, then table tennis, then a mini-game of actual tennis complete with a ball kid and an umpire with a microphone announcing the score.
So what was the incentive for Djokovic? Well, as the boys kept mentioning to anyone who would listen, they pledged to rebrand their radio station to ‘Novak 91.9’ if they could coax him out onto the balcony for a chat.
Eventually, Ben and Liam got their man, and he was definitely on board with the rebrand, as he pointed at the Nova banner and yelled “I’m expecting to see the ‘K’ right there”.
But they weren’t finished there. Ben and Liam followed through on their promise, rocking up to work this morning at Nova Entertainment’s new Adelaide radio station Novak 919, with the studio decked out in all new Novak branding.
It’s stunts like this that justify Nova Entertainment’s big call to bring the duo over from Triple J.
Dr Mumbo reckons it’s only a matter of time before they end up in a bigger market than Adelaide, so enjoy them while you can, Adeladians.
