DMG makes double program director appointments in Adelaide

DMG has appointed husband and wife Brad and Irene Hulme as new program directors to its two Adelaide radio stations.

Both will be making the move from roles in Melbourne.

Brad Hulme is the new program director of FIVEaa while Irene Hulme is stepping into the same role at Nova 919.

The Nova appointment is ahead of the departure of Mark Hales, who leaves the network in November to pursue a career out of the media.

The FIVEaa appointment is a new role .

Brad Hulme was most recently executive producer of the now defunct Dicko and Dave Melbourne breakfast show on Vega/ Classic Rock. He was also executive producer on Austereo shows including The Cage and The Shebang.

Irene Hulme is Australia’s only female program director in a major market. She joins from ARN’s Mix 101.1 in Melbourne where she’s been program director for four years.

DMG’s Adelaide GM  Sean O’Brien said: “Brad is well respected across the country and will deliver on FIVEaa’s promise of entertaining and informative interactive radio that engages listeners. We’re thrilled to welcome him on board.”

And O’Brien said of Irene Hulme’s appointment: “We’re very pleased to have appointed such an exciting and energetic program director to lead the Nova 919 team, and it’s an added bonus that Irene is coming home to Adelaide.”

She said: “I’ve had a professional and personal interest in Nova for many years, and the chance to program Nova 919 in my hometown is very exciting.”

In the last round of radio ratings, FIVEaa saw its Monday-Sunday share decline slightly from 14% to 13% which led to it dropping from number one in the market to third behind Mix 102.3 and non commercial station ABC891. Nova’s share slipped fractionally from 8.3% to 8.2%. In Melbourne, Irene Hulme leaves Mix after a slight share increase from 4.7% to 4.9%.
