Documentary streaming platform Iwonder signs deal with Seven

Iwonder, a documentary and current affairs-dedicated subscription video on demand (SVOD) platform, has announced a licensing deal with Seven’s catch-up platform 7Plus which will see an exclusive selection of branded content welcomed onto the platform in October.

Iwonder launched in 2019 and is available in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia,Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao. It was co-founded by James Bridges, previously Foxtel’s head of content and Iflix’s global head of content partnerships.

Iwonder has over 1000 documentaries from around the world

New documentaries will be added to the 7Plus platform every month for the first six months and the content will be rotated monthly after.

Bridges, who is CEO of the platform, said the deal gives Iwonder a great chance to connect with more potential subscribers.

“This partnership with 7Plus gives us a fantastic platform and portal onto the screens and devices of millions of on-demand viewers in Australia, as we continue our mission to appeal to people’s natural curiosity by serving up the most compelling and important real-life stories from across the globe,” said Bridges.

Bridges hopes the partnership with Seven will bring a host of new watchers to Iwonder

“TV and movie fans in Australia are among the hungriest in the world when it comes to their appetite for video on demand and we’re excited to be able to add our distinctive flavour to that feast.”

Mumbrella understands the platform has also recently signed a deal with Qantas which will see its documentaries placed within a branded section of their inflight entertainment system and app for domestic and international flights.

Iwonder is available for $6.99 per month in Australia, with a 30-day free trial, and doesn’t intend to cannibalise audiences from other streamers, instead positioning itself as a companion for viewers who are passionate about informative and entertaining documentaries. The platform has over 1,000 factual entertainment titles sourced from around the world.
