Does Rupert Murdoch ‘like the nightlife’?
Dr Mumbo loves a good door stop interview and this one involving ABC Darwin reporter Andrew Thompson and media mogul Rupert Murdoch is gold.
The reporter begins the interview asking about the weather before, eventually, moving on to more serious topics such as the economy.
But it’s the unusual ‘nightlife’ exchange in between the two that really caught Dr Mumbo’s attention.
Thompson, for reasons so far unknown, asks the 82-year-old Murdoch whether or not he will be heading out “to see the nightlight” in Darwin.
Dr Mumbo was greatly bemused by the News Corporation chief executive’s response… and also the subsequent exchange between media mogul and reporter.
Murdoch: “No I’ll be meeting executives thank you… (pause) is there any nightlife here? Things have changed if there’s a nightlife here.”
Reporter: “Oh yeah, there’s a good nightlife down at Mitchell street…”
It’s at this point we move on to a discussion of how long the reporter has been in “bustling” Darwin and what he makes of it before returning to more serious issues of national affairs.
Dr Mumbo can only presume the reporter is a fan of the Alicia Bridges classic I love the nightlife.

I know he is an evil genius, but I have to say, Murdoch comes across as a very down to earth reasonable billionaire.
