OzTam overnight metro ratings show Seven managed a share of 22%, moving it comfortably ahead of Channel Ten which it had been tying with after Thursday night, with the perennial third-placed network enjoying a strong week courtesy of Masterchef’s finals week.

But an absence of the cooking show saw it fall to a 12.4% share on Friday, while Nine posted a 15.4% share, both well behind Seven which has a cumulative share of 18.5% going into Saturday.

A win this week will leave Seven needing three more survey week wins to claim victory for the year, a feat it will likely achieve with its Olympics coverage which kicks off on August 6.

Friday’s viewing was a fragmented affair with sport the main draw in four of the capital cities. Seven’s AFL coverage in Melbourne and Adelaide managed 516,000 viewers, while the NRL clash between the Broncos and Panthers gained 418,000 viewers in Sydney and Brisbane for Nine.

Ten’s best shot was The Living Room with 590,000 viewers at 7.30pm, while Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens managed 733,000 at 7pm to be the top entertainment show of the night.

Seven News took top overall spot with the 6pm bulletin managing 1.001m and 6.30pm segment 917,000, ahead of Nine News with 909,000 at 6pm and 820,000 at 6.30pm.

New Tricks led ABC with 535,000, while an average of 219,000 stayed up to watch Chris Froome cement his stranglehold on the Tour de France in stage 19 overnight.
