Donna Hay, Australian food-publishing personality will speak at the ASTRA Women in TV Breakfast on 22 March as part of the ASTRA 2012 Conference.

The announcement:

Sydney – 23 January 2012: Donna Hay, Australian household name and international food-publishing phenomenon has been named as the headline speaker at the 2012 ASTRA Women in TV Breakfast, to be held on 22 March as part of the ASTRA 2012 Conference, at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre, by the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA).  ASTRA is also pleased to announce that Tiffany Cherry, former track and field athlete, and now highly regarded sports presenter, producer, reporter and TV personality will join Donna Hay to speak at the ASTRA Women in TV Breakfast.Donna Hay’s unique style has turned her into an international food-publishing phenomenon as a best-selling author of 21 cookbooks, publisher of the bi-monthly donna hay magazine and iPad app, weekly newspaper columnist, creator of the donna hay for Royal Doulton homewares collection plus a food range, and shop owner of her general store in Sydney, Australia. She is also a working mum to two boys and an inspiration to many Australian women.  Her first television series, Donna Hay – fast, fresh, simple, a 13-part half-hour cooking series for The LifeStyle Channel in Australia and various international networks, brought her approach to food to life.

Donna will share her experiences and first-hand knowledge of the evolving media landscape in an intimate and open breakfast discussion at ASTRA 2012 Conference.  She will explore why subscription TV has been the perfect launch pad for her first television series and how its innovative environment has created opportunities for her to connect with viewers.

Donna’s an inspiration to women across Australia, both professionally and in the kitchen.  Her recipes, books and magazines are well loved and cherished by the general public. “I’m very fortunate to have a wonderful career doing what I love, working across multiple mediums including publishing and broadcast, to share my passion for and knowledge of food.  What’s wonderful about television is that it shows just how simple recipes can be to prepare. Also a shortcut or trick is often easiest demonstrated rather than written and you have the chance to give people the confidence to try things themselves and cook more at home,” says Donna Hay.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Donna Hay and Tiffany Cherry to the ASTRA Women in TV Breakfast which year on year continues to showcase exceptional women of influence,” says ASTRA CEO, Petra Buchanan.

Tiffany Cherry, a former track and field athlete, was ranked in the top eight in Australia in the 400m hurdles and represented her country at the 1999 World Triathlon Championships in Montreal.  Since moving off the field, her career in television boasts a suite of successful roles as presenter, producer and reporter for networks and shows including FOX Footy, Network Ten’s Sports Tonight, Seven Network’s Talking Footy, Nine Network’s The Nation and ESPN’s live exclusive coverage of the 2009 Australian Open with more than 50 million viewers back in the US market.  Most recently Cherry returned to FOXTEL in July 2009 as a presenter, producer and reporter for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and the upcoming LONDON 2012 Olympic Games.  She is also a presenter on SKY NEWS.
