AFR salutes the heroes; ABC turns to the Hollowmen for funding bid
In today’s environment of financial crisis and scandal, Dr Mumbo salutes the Australian Financial Review for remembering one important fact – businessmen are the real heroes, goddam it!
For evidence, look no further than today’s edition of AFR Boss magazine. It’s a long time since Dr Mumbo saw so many masters of the universe staring thoughtfully, heroically even, into the middle distance. Not since he last picked up a midmarket clothes catalogue, anyway.
Even the bloke in the ad for carbon neutral paper gets in on the pretending-the-camera-isn’t-there act.
Forget about surf lifesavers, or firies – business folk are who we should be celebrating right now.
Chucklesome Gold Coast resident Frank Hainsworth certainly likes to make a topical comment or two. On the letters page of the Australian today, he asks: “What is the position should all shares drop to zerro? Do plant and machinery cease to exist?”
And just in case The Oz’s readers can’t answer his metaphysical question, he asks it in the pages of the Sydney Morning Herald too.
Dr Mumbo fears that the ABC may be getting a tad cocky in its bid for government funding. Here’s the Hollowmen special they created to influence that nice Mr Conroy:
Regarding the Hollowmen, one of the very few “must not miss” shows on television. Yes, it may be a tad cocky, but that’s Australia – isn’t it?
