DR MUMBO: And now a word from Big Momma, and the other ABC/ SBS commentators

Dr Mumbo is particularly taken with the eqalitarian way that submissions on the future of the ABC and SBS are arranged in alphabetical order. So high falutin’ organisations like ASTRA or AIMIA find themselves equally weighted with individuals. In that spirit, Dr Mumbo shares the views of Big Momma as they’re officially designated:

“I submit that you get rid of the corporate mentality and ratings-driven crap that is currently broadcast and revive subtitled programs that, in the long-run are much more cost effective than the drivel we are being shown, including the Australian version of Top Gear which is an absolute embarrasment!”

And who could argue with that?

Then there’s “Monarchists for the eradication of the ABC charter“:

Wipe out all annoying contemporary classical music especially that Australian box-office poison and install Andre Rieu as our cultural icon. He represents all that is great about Austria, oops sorry Australia. Thanks for the support of Australian artists over the years by the way.

And while we’re at it, let’s take in the view of  “No longer a proud Aussie“:

“As I listen to the ABC every day, I’m becoming increasingly concerned at the poor quality of English which is being spoken. I took a great deal of interest in the Beijing Olympics. I found it dificult to find a commentator who could even pronounce the words Australia and Australians correctly. Overwhelmingly, it was pronounced as Austraya, Austrayan, Austrayans, sometimes even Straya, Strayans. Some say Oss tray lee ah, Oss tray lee an/s also which is equally disgraceful. Goodness me ABC, surely we can, as a nation, do much better than that. It’s shameful and embarrassing. LIFT YOUR GAME…PRONTO.”

Unhappy Dave” also finally gets to have his say:

“Our local ABC Station has several talkback sessions, in which it is claimed that ‘you can talk about anything.’ This is not true. I have rung every programme and when asked what I will be talking about I say ‘I’m sick of the amount of sport on the ABC local radio. I’m sick of our local station being taken over by sport.’ I am told that I cannot comment on that.”
