Live TV election shenanigans; Cold Casey file; Double Danielle
Tally-ho
Dr Mumbo enjoyed spending his Saturday night watching the results flow in for one of the more pointless elections Australia has seen in recent years.
And while the Tasmanian state election may have been an exercise in maintaining the status quo, it was nonetheless a source of TV gold.
There was much to be said for the live TV theatre of using Australia’s last Tally Room as a backdrop. Not least because it meant multiple hours of punditing while the public got up to high jinks in the background.
Sometimes that meant stealing the show by vogueing in the back of the shot…

Styling it out in Hobart
And sometimes it meant the ability for a Greens supporter to offer her not-so-subtle commentary on Liberal minister Eric Abetz…

Cold Casey
Meanwhile, Dr Mumbo was reassured to see that while the ABC may no longer have the services of its chief election analyst Antony Green, some traditions were passed along to his successor Casey Briggs. The key one being Briggs’ touchscreen freezing at key moments.

Briggs: Stone cold analysis
And Briggs did not appear to have packed for the Hobart weather, appearing for a live cross to the ABC’s Insiders the next morning from Hobart’s Constitution Dock without a coat despite the near-freezing conditions. “I can’t feel my face,” Briggs conceded to host David Speers.
Going Long on team work
Dr Mumbo of course starts his week by reading the The Growth Agenda in The Australian, where he looks out for the byline of his favourite journos.
Today’s analysis of dairy brand Bega was a particular treat, with two of his favourite writers.
