Dreamworld hunts for new head of public relations
Gold Coast theme park, Dreamworld, is on the hunt for a new head of PR and internal communications four months after the Thunder River Rapids ride tragedy which left four people dead.
The job, posted on the seek.com.au earlier this month, is asking for “an experienced head of public relations and internal communications”.
The advertisement comes after the Dreamworld tragedy which left four people dead in an accident on the Thunder River Rapids ride in October last year. It is widely considered that Dreamworld parent-company Ardent Leisure mishandled communications regarding the event in the media.
The key duties for the successful candidate include “ongoing delivery of key messaging across media channels and with influencers for the division with a focus on pro-active activity, but supportive of reactive opportunities that come to the business,” and they must be able to “ensure messaging and activity across media activity delivers against the business strategy”.
Not surprising after what happened. It’s incredible that an organisation that involves an element of public risk would apparently have no crisis plan in place to provide an appropriate response. They should be rehearsing these scenarios (accidents and attacks) until the response becomes second nature.
