Droga5 launches program to get more disabled people into advertising
Droga5 has launched an initiative to encourage more creative companies to hire people with disabilities.
The idea is for every creative company in Australia to employ – or trial – a person with a disability by the year 2021. The initiative is centred on the Creative Spirit website.

Congratulations Droga 5 – this is brilliant! I’ll ensure all member agencies of APMA are informed of this initiative and hopefully a few of our members can help out.

Whybin/TWBA have their own Loyd – I’m sorry I’ve forgotten her name because I’m no longer there– but I can tell you that this video absolutely conveys the joy she spreads around the agency. Like Loyd, she sees everyone as a friend, is observant and quite the conversationalist, bringing out the best in surly self-obsessed creatives and stressed suits with her uncanny observations and surprising wit. It was a delight to watch her draw people out of themselves. I hate praising agencies who already think they’re shit hot, but this will have to be the exception. Well done Droga5.

As the former MD of two Aussie agencies and, more importantly, the younger brother of a person with Down’s Syndrome, I can not begin to applaud Droga5 enough for this initiative. Fortunately my brother is also employed in a ‘mainstream’ job and it means the world to him. Watching Lloyd was like watching my brother, Steve – especially the variations of handshakes and the flirting with the ladies! Much like Lloyd, my brother doesn’t see himself as different and loves the fact that he has a meaningful and important job in a company. Congrats to the other agencies who have also got involved and made a real difference to the life of a person with a disability. Great stuff.

Life is all about having purpose and passion. What a great opportunity to employ someone who has purpose and passion. We need more people like Lloyd in our workplaces. However I have question in relation to this…who gets more out of it?

This is such a brilliant initiative and a wake up call for all of us in creative industries who could be doing more.
So beautifully and sensitively made.
There’s so much complaining and bitching about work that we all do that it’s important to be reminded of the dignity it can bring to those who wouldn’t otherwise have a chance.
Good one D5.

Wonderful!
My girlfriend has a 12 year old son with Down Syndrome and I know that he would LOVE working in the Creative industry. Lets hope there are opportunites for him like this when he gets older.
Maybe they got the idea from the excellent Spanish movie Me Too??

The support and response from the creative industry has been nothing short of amazing. The team at D5 have done a wonderful job and we at Break Thru can’t thank them enough. One thing we know at Break Thru is that a job gives our clients purpose and a sense of dignity. Let’s keep pushing the message and spreading the benefits of employing people with a disability. As we say at Break Thru “we can all be social revolutionaries”.
