Ed Sheeran and Peter Jackson star in Tourism New Zealand’s latest #GetNZonthemap campaign

Tourism New Zealand has launched the latest iteration of its #GetNZonthemap campaign, this time adding director Peter Jackson and singer Ed Sheeran to its celebrity lineup, which also includes New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Flight of the Conchords’ Rhys Darby.

The ad follows on from the initial #GetNZonthemap campaign, which saw Arden and Darby lobby to get NZ on the map. It features Darby trying to solve the mystery of why NZ is constantly being left off maps around the world.

Throughout Darby’s investigation – which sees him posit Sheeran’s desire for permanent residency as a conspiracy theory – Darby receives help from Jackson to solve why a country which is bigger than the UK is often forgotten.

Jackson then reveals to Darby that New Zealand is geographically the middle of the Earth.

The ads were created by advertising agency Augusto.

“I’ve loved seeing the global response to our campaign. With a little help from Sir Peter, my hope is that people will see New Zealand right where it deserves to be – on the top of their list of places to visit,” Arden said in a statement.

Sheeran added: “I love New Zealand – it stole my heart, and it feels bonkers anyone could miss it off a map.”
