Eddie McGuire jumps to Seven for two AFL shows

Eddie McGuire will be producing two AFL programs for the station he dubbed “channel copycat” only a few months ago.

After much speculation regarding a possible defection from Nine to Seven, it has been confirmed that McGuire’s JAM TV will produce Sunday Footy Feast for Seven, and The Wash Up, both of which will run as part of the network’s Sunday AFL coverage.

McGuire will still be producing AFL programming for Nine, and played down the significance of him seemingly following Footy Classified hosts Kane Cornes, Caroline Wilson and Craig Hutchison to Seven.

“We produce shows for every network including Seven,” McGuire told the Daily Telegraph. “So, nothing new in any of this.”

Seven’s news boss Anthony De Ceglie was spotted at the JAM TV production offices last month while in Melbourne to deliver a speech to the Press Club, fuelling rumours that McGuire would defect to Seven in order to host a late night talk show.

If true, it would mark a sharp turnaround for the star, who slammed Seven in September during a live Today cross, after Nine’s Footy Classified hosts Kane Cornes, Caroline Wilson and Craig Hutchison moved to Seven.

“End of the season, you get rid of the list-cloggers and you move the new superstars in,” McGuire said, before taking aim at Seven, sarcastically saying: “It’s great that Channel Copycat is just taking something we’ve done for 18 years and putting it on air.

“So that’s okay. While they’re doing that, we’ll come up with something fresh, new and exciting for next year and do what we always do.”
