Effing good earner
To Sydney’s Doltone House for the launch of the Effie Awards call for entry, where chairman Matt Melhuish was being admirably commercially-minded.
The awards seem to be turning into a nice little earner for The Communications Council, with each entry costing member agencies just under a grand or non-members nearly $2k. Last year there were 131 entries.
Plus Telstra is now the principal sponsor and there are sponsors for most of the categories too.
Melhuish joked: “If you can think of some category that we have not included, tell us and we’ll try to sell it to someone.”
Meanwhile, AANA chairman Joe Talcott pointed out that being a judge for the awards can be hard work. He said: “Pleasure is not quite the right word – I’ve had the opportunity to be a judge.”
