Em Rusciano and Harley Breen to go national on SCA, replacing Rove & Sam’s axed evening show
Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM Sydney breakfast duo of Em Rusciano and Harley Breen will be syndicated nationally across The Hit Network, replacing Rove & Sam’s one-hour evening slot between 7pm and 8pm.
Rove & Sam’s final show went to air on Friday June 30, with Rove telling listeners in the final 90 seconds of the broadcast: “That brings us to the end of Rove and Sam. Don’t come looking for us Monday. We won’t be here. We’re going to the farm.”
Rusciano and Breen first hit the airwaves together in Sydney when they replaced Rove & Sam’s struggling breakfast show at the start of this year. The show, which runs from 6am-9am on 2Day FM, had an audience share of 3.3% in the most recent radio ratings survey – prompting Rusciano to joke on air about being “number last” in the ratings.
At the time of axing, Rove & Sam’s breakfast show ratings were above that of what Rusicano and Breen currently boast – with a 3.8% share at the end of 2016.
Despite the low ratings, The Em Rusciano Radio Show with Harley Breen has high engagement on social media and is frequently among the top podcasts on iTunes.
Rusciano took to social media over the weekened to announce the news, and assure fans it was not part of a move to shaft her from the breakfast slot.
McManus will continue working with the network in some capacity, while Frost’s contract was not renewed. Frost’s next known media project is her upcoming appearance on Seven’s Hell’s Kitchen.
The reporting period for the sixth radio ratings survey of the year begins today, Sunday July 16.
Reminds me of April, 2016:
Hit Network head of content, Gemma Fordham said, “Rove & Sam is a show that is authentic, funny and very real. The decision to spread the love of Rove & Sam, across the country, is due to the positive response the breakfast show is receiving.”
“Rove & Sam is one of our top podcasts weekly, giving us strong evidence that markets outside of Sydney are keen to be part of this show. We are delighted to now deliver this great audio content nation-wide, weeknights from 7-8pm on 54 stations in the Hit Network.”
