Emotive hires former Clemenger BBDO design head

Emotive has announced two new hires in its design department, leading with the appointment of Dan Mortensen in a newly formed head of design role.

Mortensen was most recently head of design at Clemenger BBDO, a role he held for seven years. He’ll be joined at creative agency Emotive by a new junior designer, Sam Jones.

The hires come off the back of Emotive bringing James Pash on board as its new creative director, after he returned to Australia from Rothco in Dublin.

Emotive managing partner and head of strategy, Michael Hogg, said Mortensen is a natural leader who is the right person for Emotive.

“Design is fundamental to everything we do and elevating our offering in that area was a must. In Dan, we found the right person.

“Along with exceptional design skills across the board, he’s a creative champion, a natural leader and one of the most enthusiastic blokes you’ll ever meet. He’s also Kiwi, but you can’t have everything.”

Mortensen added: “Their creative culture, creative ambition and the opportunity to help take the work to the next level were all huge pulls for me.

“Working alongside Simon and Michael has already made me excited about getting stuck in. And the beach house location might have had something to do with it too.”

Emotive CEO and founder, Simon Joyce, said Mortensen’s track record speaks for itself, and he’s also excited to welcome Jones and see her career develop.

“Dan’s appointment represents another key step in the evolution of the agency as we elevate our design credentials to meet the needs of a growing client base. He’s got an amazing track record not just in creative and design, but in building teams and culture. He’s a ripping bloke and we are thrilled to have him.

“With Sam’s appointment, I’m equally excited. It’s fantastic to see more skilled and ambitious junior talent arriving at the agency, and we can’t wait to watch her career develop.”

Both appointments have already commenced.
