Encore magazine joins the Mumbrella stable
The team behind Mumbrella has today bought Encore Magazine from Reed Business Information.
The deal will see Encore’s monthly print magazine, website and email newsletter move across to Mumbrella’s parent company Focal Attractions from January 1.
Encore has been a mainstay of the Australian film, TV and advertising production sector for three decades.
Encore editor Miguel Gonzalez will move across with the magazine.
Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes is a former group editor of Encore while sales director Sean McKeown is a former sales manager on the title. Focal Attractions’ Martin Lane was publisher of Encore three years ago.
Burrowes said: “We intend to rapidly build Encore’s online and events presence, but the print publication is at the heart of our plans. I’m delighted that Miguel has agreed to join us in making it happen.”
RBI CEO Jeremy Knibbs said: “Encore is an excellent magazine for an exciting industry, however, it is not a direct fit with our current strategy. I am delighted we have found it a home where it will receive the focus it needs to grow from people who already know the magazine well.”
RBI will continue to publish the Encore Directory.
This is fantastic news. I hope this means that Encore will develop a greater blog/twitter/mumbrella like relationship with stakeholders.
Thanks, Lauren – that’s certainly part of the plan!
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Great move Tim. Keep us informed. My wife is a TV producer and would love an “Enbrella” to go with the magazine.

no chance of an ad based model instead of subscription payment for content and directory access?

Hi JD,
I’m glad to tell you that the Encore website will indeed be ad-suppported. (Please bear with us over the next couple of days while we (bumpily, I’m sure) migrate the content.
I should point out that the Encore Directory was not part of the purchase, and that remains with Reed. You can now find that at http://encoredirectory.com.au.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
