Entries open for Australian Catalogue Association Awards

The Australian Catalogue Association is calling for entries for its 20th annual awards to be presented in Melbourne on August 12.

The announcement:

2 March 2011 – Entries have opened for the Australian Catalogue Association’s (ACA) 20th annual awards night, recognising excellence in catalogue design and effectiveness amongst some of Australia’s best known retailers, marketers and creative designers.

ACA CEO, Ken Bishop said the awards program is an opportunity to acknowledge the industry’s creativity and effectiveness.

“After strong fields in recent years, we encourage entries in all categories to come forward in what is a milestone year for the annual awards,” he said.

With entries opening on 18 February, Mr Bishop expects over 800 by the closing date on 29 April in a variety of sub categories, as well as the coveted catalogue of the year.

The awards night will be held at The Peninsula in Melbourne’s Docklands on Friday, 12 August.

“This is a terrific networking occasion that showcases the talents of our industry, from designers and retailers, and to acknowledge their contribution to one of the most effective and economical advertising mediums in Australia,” he said.

Around $1.5 billion, or 60 per cent of total print advertising spend, is invested by Australia’s retailers in catalogues, with the industry continuing to experience healthy annual growth.

“Our recent research indicates 70 per cent of consumers make a visit to a store as a direct result of reading a catalogue and 85 per cent of Australians are happy to receive them in their letterboxes.”

Prizes on offer include Apple Mac Pro laptops and airfares to Qld.

Last year’s winners included Paddy Pallin (up to 1.5 million catalogues), Bay Leather Republic (over 1.5 million catalogues) and R.M Williams, (The People’s Choice). Vijay Logan, M&C Saatchi, won best designer of the year, while Cumming Agency and Studios won best advertising agency of the year.

The Australian Catalogue Association was formed in 1992 and represents the producers, printers, distributors and suppliers to the catalogue industry. The Australian Catalogue Awards were first initiated to encourage the stakeholders in the highly competitive, visible and diverse industry to band together and provide a forum for catalogue designers and advertisers to improve their art.
