Erin Phillips joins Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom on Mix 102.3 breakfast

Australian Radio Network has confirmed Erin Phillips will replace the departing Jodie Oddy alongside Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom on Mix 102.3 breakfast.

Erin Phillips & Soda for Breakfast will kick off in 2021, with ARN promising “a brand new kind of breakfast show” at one of Adelaide’s most successful commercial radio stations.

Phillips was one of a handful of names bandied around as a potential replacement for Oddy since the latter announced last month that she’d be finishing up after 13 years at the station.

The AFLW star and Olympic basketball silver medalist is already familiar to Mix 102.3 audiences, having worked alongside Soderstrom earlier in 2020 while Oddy was on maternity leave.

Soderstrom said he knows listeners will welcome the “enthusiasm and cheekiness” that Phillips has to offer.

“I am super excited to welcome Erin to our Mix breakfast team. There is much more to this down-to-earth Mum of three than just snapping goals and sinking three pointers and I know our fantastic friends of the show will welcome Erin’s enthusiasm and cheekiness,” he said.

Phillips, who is the current captain of the AFLW Adelaide Crows added; “I’m incredibly excited to join Soda and the Mix102.3 team.

“I really enjoy working in radio and to be on-air in the city I love is something I’m extremely grateful for. I can’t wait to have a lot of fun with Soda and plenty of laughs with our listeners.”

As of the final GfK radio ratings of 2020, Mix 102.3 was the #1 rated station in Adelaide with an 11.7% share.

Meanwhile, Jodie and Soda had a 10.6% share on breakfast, making them the equal #1 show on the FM band, but behind AM stations FIVEaa and ABC Adelaide.

ARN chief content officer Duncan Campbell said the change signalled a “contemporary new direction” for the show which he is certain audiences will embrace.

“When we needed to find a new co-host for the show, it made sense to consider people who have been part of the show over the years. Erin and Soda have great energy and we saw really positive engagement from the Mix audience when she was on air,” he said.

“Erin is a great addition to the breakfast show – she is one of Adelaide’s most loved sports people, she loves footy, knows all about the juggle of work and family, and she is passionate about supporting the community.”
