Erin Phillips to fill in for Jodie Oddy on Mix 102.3’s Jodie and Soda Breakfast Show

AFLW star and Olympic basketball silver medallist Erin Phillips will join Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom on Mix 102.3’s breakfast program in 2020.

Regular co-host Jodie Oddy is extending her maternity leave.

The program will also be joined by a new executive producer, Alexis Kuchel.

Phillips is currently co-captain of the AFLW team Adelaide Crows, which won the premiership in 2017 and 2019. She also won silver with the Australian basketball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She currently has a knee injury and it’s uncertain if she will return for round one of the AFLW on 8 February, 2020.

Phillips noted radio was a good option for her when she’s done with professional sport.

“I’m incredibly excited to hit the breakfast airwaves and join Soda and the Mix 102.3 team. I’ve really enjoyed working in radio and this is an area I’d love to work post footy. Working alongside Soda and learning from him is going to be a massive opportunity as he is one of the greats at his profession. Most of all I’m looking forward to having lots of fun with Soda and our listeners,” she said.

Soderstrom said he hopes some of Phillips’ inspirational qualities rub off on him.

“I am super excited to welcome Erin along for what will be a great ride. She is a mum, an Olympian, a world champion, a bona fide footy star and a proud South Aussie and I know our friends of the show will love getting to know her even more,” he said.

“Erin has a great knack of succeeding at everything she puts her mind to and I have no doubt radio will be the same. Erin’s dedication, commitment and work ethic are inspiring and I hope some of it will rub off on me. As a world-class athlete she has got a powerful pair of shoulders, which she’ll need to carry me.”

At the most recent radio ratings survey, Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Mix 102.3 had an FM leading 12.3% share in breakfast, behind just ABC Adelaide’s 12.7% and Five AA’s 14.2%. Overall, Mix 102.3 leads the Adelaide market, with a 13.6% share.

Phillips will be with the program from Monday 20 January until Friday 2 April.

Next year, Nova 91.9 in Adelaide will also have new hosts, with Triple J’s Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton taking over.
