Essence appoints Russ Mitchinson to lead strategy

WPP’s digital media agency Essence has hired Russ Mitchinson as its head of strategy.

Mitchinson’s move comes just six months after he was appointed GM of OMD’s Perth operation.

Prior to OMD where he also worked on the McDonald’s account in the Sydney office, Mitchinson has also worked in planning roles at creative agencies Clemenger BBDO Sydney, DDB and Leo Burnett. He is also a former chairman of industry body The Communication Council’s Account Planning Group.

In a statement Mitchinson said: “It is a truly exciting time to be joining Essence as the agency reaches an inflection point. It is in Essence’s DNA to deliver premium digital and
performance-based media, and increasingly the business is bringing that thinking to the full gamut of channels as it expands into innovative content spaces.”

The appointment follows James Luty who joined  in the role of client partner for Google.
