Evergreen revamps ‘discriminatory’ fun run so older runners can win their age in cash

Over fifties marketing specialist Evergreen has launched a campaign to promote the Cool Country Classic Fun Run – where participants over 60 years old can win their age in cash.

Evergreen chose to sponsor the event – through research arm Greenscouts – after MD Gill Walker objected to bigger prizes being offered to younger runners.

The race offered $100 for the winner – but only $20 for the 60+ category winner.

“We thought that was not fair, so we upped the ante to win your age in cash. It’s age discrimination in reverse,” said Walker.

The agency is looking for brands to donate products to aid older runners, such as recovery packs, muscle treatments, multivitamins and wheelchairs.

Walker is hoping for up to 60 runners over 60 years old to compete.

The race is taking place in Trentham, northwest of Melbourne, on Sunday 13 November.
