Everyone’s a winner in Monday’s TV ratings
All three major networks had something to be cheerful about from last night’s TV ratings – Nine’s final episode of Underbelly took its audience back above 2m; Ten saw a good debut for Recruits plus a stronger MasterChef Australia audience; and Seven scored two of the three biggest shows of the night.
Underbelly rated an average audience of just under 2.1m, according to preliminary OzTam ratings, which took it to a comfortable win for the night.
But Ten will have been encouraged to see the debut of Recruits – a documentary about the NSW Police – rate at just over 1.2m, which won its timeslot.
The arrival of the MasterChef top 20 in Sydney pulled in a similar audience and also won its slot.
So far for the ratings week, the combination of Nine’s Logies’ dominated Sunday night and Underbelly audience last night gives the network a strong lead.
Monday night’s peak share: Nine 29.1%; Seven 26.2%; Ten 21.5%; ABC 15.4%; SBS 7.8%
Monday night’s top ten TV shows:
-
Underbelly – Nine 2.1m
-
Seven News – Seven 1.6m
-
Today Tonight – Seven 1.5m
- Nine News – Nine 1.3m
-
A Current Affair – Nine 1.3m
-
Home and Away – Seven 1.3m
- Two and a Half Men – Nine 1.3m
-
Masterchef – Ten 1.2m
-
Recruits – Ten 1.2m
- ABC News – ABC 1.1m
Despite the doomsayers predicting the new media apocalypse, TV continues to have a robust audience. Last night’s top 10 alone represents a third of the Australian population. TV will remain relevant so long as its event programming fuels water-cooler conversations the next day.
Don’t take my word for it, Ben Shepard said it better on his blog

What a disheartning list…
I am also presuming there is some significant cross over in that one-third of Australia?
