Ex-Coles marketing GM, moves into Victoria University CMO role

Victoria University has appointed David Llewellyn as its first CMO, to lead its brand, marketing, digital and corporate communications teams.

Llewellyn’s appointment comes after an extensive recruitment search led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor External Relations and Partnerships, the Hon. Wade Noonan.

Speaking of the appointment, Noonan said: “David is highly accomplished commercial leader and entrepreneur with a real passion for building brands and developing people.

“He comes at an important point as we embark on our new 2022 – 2028 Strategy Plan, Start Well, Finish Brilliantly. Victoria University is an innovative, ambitious, diverse, and inclusive dual sector leader committed to both providing an outstanding student experience and solving real world research problems.”

Said Llewellyn: “It’s an exciting time to join Victoria University and be part of the journey of delivering on the University’s ambitious vision. I was thrilled to see VU taking such an innovative and bold approach to learning, research, community, and industry development. I can’t wait to get started”.

Llewellyn joins from independent agency, Bellwether, where he was a founder and strategic director. Launched in 2018, Bellwether was finalist in the 2021 Mumbrella Awards and made the Campaign Brief 2022 Hot List.

Before launching Bellwether, Llewellyn was general manager marketing at Coles from 2014 to 2017. Prior to Coles, Llewellyn was general manager marketing at Pacific Brands, now known as Hanes Brands Inc., and prior to this held executive strategy and marketing roles at Wesfarmers retailers, Target, and Officeworks.

With his appointment, Victoria University is creating a new leadership team for its marketing portfolio. Corrina Langelaan, previously associate director strategic communications at the University of Melbourne, also joined VU as director, media and corporate communications in June. Further director appointments in marketing, brand and web services are expected in the coming months.
