Ex-Nine sales director Gerard Max launches media agency

Gerard Max, the former Melbourne sales director of Nine, has set up his own media agency, Mumbrella can reveal.

Max, who left Nine in September last year after a 16-month stint, has launched Max & Partners, a media strategy and implementation firm.

The new company has formed strategic alliances with Omnicom media buying agency M2M, brand and design agency Clear Design and mobile and social media specialist B2Cloud.

Clients so far include SuperChef Warehouse, retail estate agent Run and cosmetic surgeon Dr Daniel Lanzer.

“I don’t see myself as competing with the large media agencies,” he told Mumbrella. “I want to do good work on a smaller scale, and provide a bespoke, smart service rather than stretch myself too thinly.”

Max & Partners already employs a digital specialist, and Max said he is looking to hire a senior strategist.

Max’s career to date includes a stint as general manager of Multi Channel Network in Melbourne, having been promoted from sales director in 2008. He was also a group sales manager of Seven’s Melbourne operation.

“The experience of setting up my own business has been really liberating,” he added. “When you work for a media organisation, your obligation is to capitalise on commercial opportunities that your media owner provides. Sometimes that will be a complete solution, sometimes not. On the media agency side, you can provide a complete solution and service.”
