Ex-Telstra marketer Mark Collis moves to IAG
Mark Collis, Telstra’s former director of creativity and brand content, has re-emerged as the head of brands at Insurance Australia Group’s NRMA Insurance, SGIC and SGIO.
Collis, who was one of brains behind Telstra’s new brand positioning, left the telco giant in November last year. He departed soon after the first phase of the rebrand was completed.
Collis takes on a role to define and implement the brand vision for NRMA Insurance, SGIC and SGIO across all channels both internal and external, the company has confirmed.
IAG’s direct Insurance brands in Australia are NRMA Insurance, SGIC and SGIO. Other IAG brands include Swann Insurance and CGU.
NRMA Insurance uses ad agency Whybin\TBWA\Tequila, which won at Cannes this year for its Car Creation campaign. The My Car Is Your Car campaign for NRMA Insurance, SGIC and SGIO claimed a grand prix at the Australian Promotional Marketing Association awards for direct agency Integer last year.
An IAG spokesperson said that the company did not have any plans to review its agency roster following the Collis appointment.
Collis’s job is a newly created position, working alongside its marketing teams, they added.
In Collis’s career to date, he has national creative director of Leo Burnett and ECD of Ogilvy Japan.
Now the question is how long will he last.
This is not a reflection on Mark but of IAG. They may not be ready for someone like him, but one thing is for sure, they will get some great creative ideas and outcomes which is fair to say they have been lacking.
