Ex-The West Australian political editor Gary Adshead joins Nine
Gary Adshead, former political editor for The West Australian who left the title as editor Anthony De Ceglie called for voluntary redundancies ahead of editorial team integration, has joined Nine News as state political reporter.
The announcement:
Nine News has welcomed the appointment of Perth’s number one investigative reporter, Gary Adshead, in the role of State Political Editor.
Adshead has long been one of Western Australia’s foremost journalists and was most recently State Political Editor of The West Australian, before leaving the newspaper in April.
Adshead’s exclusives include a series of stories about an MP’s fake overseas police service medal, which led to a by-election the government lost.
He was named West Australian journalist of the year at the 2018 WA Media Awards and has won multiple awards for his investigations of organised crime, politics and breaking news, including the lead in the drinking water scandal at the new Perth Children’s Hospital.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gary to Nine News,” said Michael Best, the recently appointed Director of News for Nine Perth. “He is without a doubt one of WA’s foremost journalists. He breaks the biggest and most important stories in Perth.
“I have long admired Gary’s work, going right back to when he was the only TV reporter on the HMAS Adelaide rescue of yachtsman Tony Bullimore. He brings with him a wealth of experience, contacts, and a ‘take no prisoners’ approach to finding the truth. He will be a great asset to Nine News as we look to continue our growth in the six o’clock bulletin in the West.”
A journalist since 1984, Adshead has worked across television, radio and print. His early years included time at A Current Affair. He has also worked as the Mornings and Drive program host on Radio 6PR and as a trusted political commentator and columnist on political affairs in Western Australia.
“In many ways, returning to Nine is like coming home,” said Adshead. “Some of my biggest reporting moments were during my time with Nine News and A Current Affair. I’m now looking forward to breaking and telling the stories that matter to West Australians each night in the news bulletin.”
In 2019, the Nine News 6.00pm bulletin has seen strong growth with a 3.9% per cent lift in audience for total people*.

Morning Gary,
Just saw the transcript of your interview with Christian Porter – thanks.
Not sure if you have any interest in tracking the Current Family Law Review, if not, perhaps you have a collegue who is?
I know there are many highly visible topics for you to focus on – but the current report of the FL system review by the Australian Law Reform Commission means at some stage, I hope soon, this Topic will bubble up. I wrote to Christian last week highlighting:
“I am dismayed at the apparent dismissiveness of the treatment of property in this Governments current Family Law review, especially s79 dealing with property adjustment within the Family Law Act 1975. When it comes to the conduct of the Australian Law Reform Commissions coverage on property issues, in their last final report released earlier this year, only one (1) property related recommendation was made out of sixty (60) recommendations overall This void and bias is deafening! The one ALRC recommended s79 change as you know was property valuation to be changed from “hearing” date to “separation” date. An absolute necessity for property matters, like inheritances, that take 5 years (other states) to be heard in a broken system, as more and more property only cases get pushed out in time as being not urgent. This one property related change must be done immediately along with many others around property” …..I went on to ask the following questions and still await a reply:
1. Is enough being done to address property issues in the FL System Review?
2. What new s79 legislation is planned to preserve our “Separate Property Regime”?
3. Do we need better research on the effects to health and wealth upon the community “institutionalised” by the system?
While I wrote to him on behalf of all Australians, I am accutly aware of the prideof West Australians in their FL Court system. So if and when the opportunity arises perhaps Family Law Reform may get your focus, on behalf of all Australians. Thanks for considering
Stephen

Hi Gary.
I would like to talk to u about some issues of concern at a place of mutual convenience.
My brother, Michael Holmes (@ CNN) has, like his good friend Geoff Hutchison, a long standing belief in the power and integrity of the media.
I would like to discuss some issues with you.
Please advise me in relation to your availability.
Kind regards,
David Filmer (Holmes).

Hello Gary
In regards to your story on the tow trucks
I would like to make a comment as to not only the disgraceful tow truck drivers but also the lack of compassion by the police force whom a couple of years ago had my daughter who was going through a domestic violence situation who had moved to the country town of York to try and start a new life with her 3 children all girls
Claimed that she fails to stop at a stop sign
Then had her car impounded leaving her on the side of the road with no phone service and no means to get home where 2 of her children were with no phone service
After some pleading with the police involved they took her home
Then weeks later they had a road stop near the lakes and as she was in the middle of moving again driving her kids to school in midland she didn’t have her paper work with her and as she couldn’t prove she had paid her time to pay for her fines they impounded her car again which is still an on going saga today
I thought that the police had a duty of care
She was on new start and has now been put on a disability pension which has taken over a year to be accepted from Post traumatic stress disorder from being assaulted on more than one occasion
By her husband
This is just some of the story
I am her mum and am so tired of the system she no one cares and the children have all been traumatised and are now seeing a physiatrist
No thanks tho DCP or the Police
If you are interested in helping us with our plight it would be appreciated
Thank you for listening
