Expert panel to share tips on coping with reputational crisis at CommsCon conference

PR and Comms conferenceCommunications experts will share case studies of how they helped brands through a public relations crisis in a session at next month’s CommsCon conference.

CommsCon – aimed at PR and communications professionals and organised by Mumbrella’s parent company Focal Attractions – takes place in  Sydney on Thursday March 20.

The session on reputation management will see Kirstin Devitt, MD of KDPR, share her experiences of helping a casino client with its communications following the tragic drowning of a guest. And public affairs professional Andrew Woodward will discuss how he helped Indonesian tourism authorities communicate with Australians after the Bali bombings.

Devitt and Woodward will be joined by Oliver Freedman, MD of reputation research company AMR.

Devitt, a former Network Ten journalist, owns and runs the Brisbane-based KPDR. She was also Queensland president of the Public relations Institute of Australia.

Woodward has 20 years experience in communications and public affairs roles, most recently working for the organisers of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. He has also worked for Visa, The Australian Tourist Commission and the Sydney Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games.

Freedman’s AMR pulishes the Annual Reputation Index which charts what the Australian public thinks of 60 of the country’s largest brands.

tim addington headshotAs well as sharing case studies, the three will offer advice on how to prepare for and deal with a reputation-threatening crisis in a panel discussion moderated by Tim Addington, communications director of The Works. Addington is a former editor of B&T magazine.

The reputational crisis session is one of a number focusing on case studies at this year’ CommsCon. Other case study sessions will cover using celebrities in public relations campaigns, stakeholder management in complex communications projects, where technology meets PR, and where PR meets social.

LA Dodgers public relations director Joe Jareck is the event’s keynote guest while other sessions will cover managing legal risks and looking at best practice PR around the world.
