Fairfax appoints Philippa Walker to lead travel industry commercial team

Phillipa Walker has been appointed by Fairfax as head of travel to lead the Metro division’s commercial operations in the travel sector.

The appointment is part of Fairfax’s restructure of its commercial divisions, which it announced late last year in order to better align operations with industry verticals.

Phillipa Walker: “excited to be joining the Fairfax commercial team.”

Walker, who spent a decade with travel agency The Travel Corporation and was most recently account director with printer Blue Star Group, will oversee 12 staff within Fairfax’s Australian Metro Publishing business which includes The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times and WAtoday.

“I’m excited to be joining the Fairfax commercial team as the business continues to build a sustainable publishing model,” Walker said in a media statement.

Fairfax’s national head of luxury and lifestyle, Michael Grenenger, added: “Travel is a major part of our business and we’re thrilled to welcome Phillipa to the team. Her vast experience in the sector will be a key asset to what is the largest vertical within the luxury and lifestyle division.”

Walker’s appointment follows Oliver Peagam joining Fairfax from Volvo Australia to lead the automotive vertical, and Financial Times veteran Chris Nardi becoming national head for business and government.

Fairfax said further appointments for their business and government vertical will be announced in the coming weeks.
