Fairfax Events & Entertainment enter the world of esports

Fairfax Events has announced today that they will join forces with Australia’s preeminent esports organisation, The Chiefs Esports Club.

Earlier this month Fairfax Events & Entertainment announced they had entered the world of esports; joining with ESL and TEG in partnership to deliver the Melbourne Esports Open.

The Chiefs’ ‘League of Legends’ team have just qualified for the OPL final, to be played at Rod Laver Arena as part of the Melbourne Esports Open.

Martin Jolly, Managing Director Fairfax Events & Entertainment said, “esports has captured the world over the past few years and the growth both locally and globally has been significant. It is an area we have watched from afar and the timing is right for us to announce the second of our strategic alliances in this space.

We have been in discussions with The Chiefs founder and CEO, Frank Li, for some time now and after watching the teams perform and how they are managed; we believe it is a great fit for the business. The Chiefs are a quality organisation and we are excited to bring our expertise in commercial growth alongside their market leading elite and professional players to create a positive, successful and supportive team environment. The Chiefs fans should know that Fairfax Events & Entertainment is excited to be part of your family and we look forward to sharing your passion for this great organisation and its players”.

Frank Li, Founder and CEO, noted “I know esports has massive potential, and the players and staff at the Chiefs have achieved great things over the past 4 years. We have been looking at a strategic alliance for some time to work together and achieve new heights and the team at Fairfax Events & Entertainment have been a perfect fit with their understanding, adaptability and willingness to learn and embrace the industry. We are confident they can help us to grow, not only The Chiefs but esports as a whole in Australia. We are looking forward to the Melbourne Esports Open this weekend and hope to continue our success in the OPL and beyond!”

Fairfax Events & Entertainment are delighted to announce it has executed its first commercial agreements in the esports arena with the placement of Boost Mobile to the Melbourne Esports Open and The Chiefs respectively.
