September 26, 2011 –

Fairfax Media has launched a dynamic new online editorial section designed specifically for IT professionals, called IT Pro.

IT Pro, which is now live, is a section within Fairfax’s metro masthead news websites (The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times and WA Today), and will offer the professional IT audience in Australia a broad choice of unique editorial content and other resources.

For advertisers, IT Pro will be the ideal business-to-business medium to reach the professional IT market.

The new section has its own dedicated editor, respected technology writer and commentator Lia Timson, who will write and commission original content for the section.

Editorial will cover areas including government and business IT, enterprise software, security and innovation, and will also feature professional IT product reviews.

Digital Publisher, Metro Media, Jane Huxley, said: “We’re very excited about the launch of IT Pro and believe it has enormous potential both for the reader, and for advertisers looking to engage with the IT professional.

“Fairfax Media has a large audience of key IT decision makers and other professionals across our news websites who we have not targeted directly until now. We recognise their needs are very different from our more general consumer technology audience who continue to enjoy our great technology sections Digital Life and Technology.

“IT Pro has been developed first and foremost to provide IT professionals with unique editorial content beyond anything previously available in Australian media,” Huxley said.

She added that IT Pro offered new advertising opportunities both for large mainstream IT companies as well as smaller, niche players in the sector who might not have advertised with Fairfax in the past.

Microsoft is the initial launch partner for IT Pro and Huxley said other major advertisers were expected to be on board in coming months.

Readers can expect to see stories on a broad range of topics such as database privacy and security, issues around the NBN and other government infrastructure and IT policy, innovation and tech trends, as well as reporting on all the major IT corporations.

“Lia Timson is one of the most experienced specialists in IT journalism and is committed to bringing fresh and stimulating editorial to every IT professional in Australia,” Huxley said.

In addition to editorial content on the IT Pro website, readers can sign up for a free weekly IT Pro e-newsletter which will give an overview of the week’s top stories and industry issues.

Social networking sites Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google + will also be included via story links and IT Pro social media groups.
