Fairfax to push video during election coverage

Fairfax Digital is to use election night coverage for one of its boldest video pushes yet with its masthead home pages switching to streaming video from the ABC at key moments of the night.

As well as making the ABC coverage available via the “video” tabs on smh.com.au, theage.com.au, brisbanetimes.com.au and watoday.com.au, Fairfax said: “Throughout the evening, as major updates occur, the homepages will switch by default to the video player, so that viewers can keep up-to-date with the news as it breaks.”

“The news of Julia Gillard becoming Prime Minister was easily our biggest day for news online ever. Naturally, we also expect there to be considerable interest online in the results of tomorrow’s election,” said Pippa Leary, MD of media at Fairfax Digital.

News Ltd will also be pushing its video streaming credentials, including live video coverage from its production hub in Adelaide.
