Triple M launches national on-air talent search

Triple M is launching a nationwide talent search to find its next new radio team, with on-air auditions happening across a single week in December.

Pilot Week begins December 15, with Triple M’s national breakfast slot handed over to five would-be radio teams, who each have a single two-hour shift to impress listeners and convince station programmers to add them to the 2026 lineup.

Entries open on October 31, and will be reviewed throughout November, and narrowed down to a top five. This marks the first time the station has launched a public-facing talent search for on-air presenters.

Southern Cross Austereo’s head of broadcast content Matthew O’Reilly, said in a press release that “Triple M has always been about big personalities”.

“Pilot Week opens the door for fresh voices to jump behind the mic and have an opportunity for an exciting career in radio.”

It also allows the network to leverage the generation of talent coming up through the podcast industry, many of which are independent productions, untethered to a national audio network.

“The audio industry is booming, and there’s incredible creative energy across the country, from podcasters and comics to online storytellers,” O’Reilly said, adding that Triple M’s pilot week is “the perfect opportunity for anyone who’s ever listened to Mick Molloy, James Brayshaw or Beau Ryan and thought, ‘I reckon I could do that’.”
