Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald soars to the top of the weekend box office

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has soared to the top of the weekend box office, taking $8.574m on its opening weekend.

The latest instalment of the Warner Bros franchise, which is set in the Harry Potter universe, was shown across 699 screens and knocked Bohemian Rhapsody off the top spot.


Fox’s Freddy Mercury biopic continued to draw in audiences on its third weekend since release, taking $4.247m across 328 screens.

A Star is Born featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper fell from second place to third, taking in $1.816m over 326 screens on its fifth weekend.

Burn the Stage: The Movie entered the box office with a fizzle this weekend, earning 549,993 across 110 screens. The film tracks the success of boy band BTS, one of Korea’s most successful exports.
