Female-led Ghostbusters reboot grabs top spot at the box office
The Ghostbusters reboot featuring a female-led cast of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, grabbed the top spot of the weekend box office after raking in $4.702m in its opening weekend.
Since its Australian premiere last Thursday, the comedy, which also stars Chris Hemsworth, has made a total of $4.855m.
It pushed The Legend of Tarzan into second place with a weekend box office of $2.442m across 271 screens.
Disney’s Finding Dory was not too far behind, pulling in $2.435m across 262 screens to take its total local box office to $45.172m.
Fellow Disney film, The BFG grabbed $1.932m across 355 screens while Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates managed $1.449m across 260 screens.
