Filmmakers go to China

Screen Australia and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have sent a delegation of filmmakers to China to promote the local film industry.

Producers Jan Chapman, Antonia Barnard, Janelle Landers and Bryan Brown, and directors Jeremy Sims, Gregor Jordan and Ben C Lucas will visit Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and the World Expo in Shanghai. They will be joined by Screen Australia’s head of production investment Ross Matthews and Chris Oliver, senior manager for state and industry partnerships.

The main objective of the project is to build the synergies between the federal screen agency and DFAT. The delagation will try to leverage the country’s cultural program at the World Expo, and the fact that this is the Year of Australian Culture in China.

The program includes a presentation to the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, meetings with Chinese producers (Shanghai Film Group, Hengdian World Studios, Shanghai Media Group, SCTVF and China Film Group) in Guangzhou and discussions in Shanghai about potential co-production opportunities. The final event will be a reception on June 12 at the World Expo, and screenings of Last Ride, Beneath Hill 60, Red Hill and Bright Star during the Shanghai International Film Festival later this month.
