First Look: Iloura’s visual effects work on M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth

The first trailer for After Earth – a new film from M. Night Shyamalan – has gone online, and includes visual effects work from Australian post production house Iloura.

The film sees characters played by Will Smith and his son Jaden crash land on Earth, 1,000 years after it has been abandoned and quarantined.

Caroline Pitcher, business development director for Iloura told Encore:

“It’s a very different type of work for us, in terms of character and creature animation. The way the creatures have been built, the way they move and the way they interact with each other as a herd have all been real challenges for us.”

Among the shots created by Iloura are those featuring the distinctively striped okapi.

Initially the post-house had 150 shots, but Pitcher said: “We’re still working on the project and so far we have completed around 170 shots. We’ve employed around 60 artists.”

The production house has been busy working on matte environments and other FX work for the film plus working on I’Frankenstein and The Great Gatsby.

Iloura was recently among the Omnilab companies bought by Deluxe.
